BUCKING GELDINGS/ TENDOR BACKS
top^ |
Free |
This is just an idea
Stallions usually self cleanse where as geldings
can not. Some geldings will develop a build up
of smegma in the urinary track of the sheath
which can become very hard yellowish pieces (the
Americans call them peas) making it difficult
and uncomfortable or them to pass water it can
also be very painful. Due to the pain and
discomfort and urinating in short bursts or very
infrequent it can lead to a kidney infection. If
you notes your gelding regularly standing with
his sheath hanging out or is tender around the
kidney area or even starts playing up when
saddled and bucking, it could well mean the poor
lad is in discomfort. Some horses will let you
check them, you can sometimes push/squeeze the
peas out but in server cases you should get your
vet out. But on the other hand misbehaver can be
due to badly fitted saddle and even an aversions
to the bit. |

top^ |
250ml 24.00 |
Strengthens poor quality hoof walls helping
horses to keep shoes on and ideal for horses
ridden unshod or to help in the transition from
shod to unshod. (If your horse is in at night or
stabled long term straw is the best form of
bedding as it does not draw the moisture out of
their hooves plus it will help keep the hooves
out of the urine as it is the urine that weakens
the walls (as well as bad nutrition) which can
hinder the transition from shod to unshod.) |
|
HORSE BEDDING

This is just an idea
I
have recently read an article as regards horses
hooves and they found that straw was one of the
best as it did not draw moisture out of the hoof

|
LAMINITICS
top^ |
Free |
This is just an idea
And I think a very good one recommended by a
friend Natural Trimmer Mel Richards. For horses
prone to suffering from this very painful
problem you might like to think about a way, to
allow them out to graze 24/7. This is called
TRACKING, regardless of the shape of you
field you want to put an electric fence
box/circle in the middle using a few wooden
posts as anchors . The horse/pony is kept on the
outside (track) of the box/circle, the width of
the track should be up to 4feet wider than the
horse/pony is long , the more horses the wider
it needs to be ( a few feet per extra horse)
and/or make the corner areas bigger. This idea
will encourage the horse to walk pretty well
constantly and at the same time restricting
their grazing but allowing them to graze
‘naturally’ improving their circulation and
above all mental wellbeing. The inner area can
be grazed by horses that are not prone and the
prone ones at restricted times or in the winter.

LAVENDER OIL
top^ |
100ml 28.00
10ml 4.00 |
I
personally think this is the best midge
repellent as they can’t stand lavender you can
mix it with any base oil, aloe Vera gel or in
water to spray or as a wash, put on the tail
including the tip as they can then waft it
around, mane and especially underside as it is
here the get attacked as the midges lift up out
of the grass. PREVENTION is better than
cure, If the horse is affected by midges, What
ever product is used it is better to start using
it before the problem starts, any mild days put
whatever on even as early as January. Midges,
unfortunately don’t die off in the cold weather
they just go into hiding ready to attack at
every opportunity regardless of the time of
year. With Lavender oil you don’t have to put on
constantly, once a day or every couple of days
depending on weather. I put some in the rinse
water when washing the horses as it is a nice
relaxant. Rub the oil along the CORONET BAND
to encourage growth. (I wash with lavender soap
throughout the milder season which prevents me
from being bitten) It is worth keeping a little
bottle in the house as if any one gets bitten
then the oil will calm it and stop it itching.
Other uses for Lavender are Burns, Inflammation,
Cuts, Wounds, Eczema, Dermatitis, Nervous
Tension, Infections, Bacterial conditions,
Sores, Ulcers, Acne, Boils, Asthma, Rheumatism,
Arthritis, Muscular Pain and Spasms.

LINSEED SEEDS
top^ |
1.80 |
One of the best natural feeds available. Linseed
is a rich source of omega 3 fatty acid, alpha
linolenic acid and omega 6 in the correct
proportions. Characteristics of a lack of these
essential fatty acids may include a dull coat,
dry itchy skin and cracking hooves. Omega 3
fatty acids have anti- inflammatory properties
this being potentially beneficial for chronic
arthritis as well as regulating smooth muscle
and autonomic reflexes, construction of healthy
cell walls- transportation of oxygen to body
cells, regulation of nerve transmissions -
primary energy source for heart muscles. It’s
lignans support the immune system as well as
circulatory and structural system. Linseed is a
conventional plant source, an alternative to
fish oils. (personally I don’t think that any
animal and fish product should be fed to horses
or any herbivore). If your soil is sandy then
the linseed will help remove the sand from the
gut.
Recommended Dose: Seeds must be brought to the
boil and simmer for up to 8/12 hours. Ideally if
you have a slow cooker bring to the boil on the
stove then put in the slow cooker over night. I
tend to leave them soak for 24hours then cook
them. Dosage is entirely up to the individual
but if the horses manure starts to become loose
then cut back on the amount. |

every few days -every day if ridden, as well as
having pure natural Himalayan salt licks in the
fields as some need more than others. HORSES

STABLES

This is just an Idea
If
you have the chance to build new stables it
might be worth thinking about splitting the
floor, lay concrete on the front half and
drainage stone on the back half. The drainage
stone needs to be a good 6+ inches deep and with
this under the straw bedding you will have a
good natural drainage system and save on bedding
in the long run. |

Helps to relieve infections of the urinary track
such as cystitis . Will also help geldings and
stallions who’s sheaths are infected or have an
over production of smegma. Stallions usually
self cleanse where as geldings can not. Some
geldings will develop a build up of smegma in
the urinary track of the sheath which can become
very hard yellowish pieces (the Americans call
them peas) making it difficult for them to pass
water it can also be very painful. If you notes
your gelding regularly standing with his sheath
hanging out or is tender around kidney area or
even starts playing up when saddled , it could
well mean the poor lad is in discomfort. Some
horses will let you check them, you can
sometimes push/squeeze the peas out but in
server cases you should get your vet out.
Recommended Dose: 10-20g daily . MUST NOT BE
USED LONG TERM OR REPEATEDLY. |
